City Elections

The City Secretary serves as the Chief Election Official for the City of Aurora and is responsible for conducting all City elections as prescribed by the Election Code of the State of Texas.  Municipal elections are held on the first Saturday in May of each year, as authorized by state law.


Upcoming Election Information:

The next General Municipal Election is scheduled for Saturday, May 3, 2025. The first day to file for a place on the ballot is Wednesday, January 15, 2025. The last day to file for a place on the ballot is Friday, February 14, 2025, at 5pm. The last day to file as a write-in candidate is Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 5pm.

Individuals wishing to file for a place on the ballot may view the 2025 Candidate Application Packet.

The offices scheduled for the May 3, 2025, General Election include:

Mayor

Ward 1, Seat 1

Ward 2, Seat 2

Ward 3, Seat 1

All positions are for a two-year term from May 2025 through May 2027.

Statutory Requirements (Election Code 141.001):
– Must be a United States Citizen
– Must be 18 years of age or older
– Must not have been convicted of a felony
– Must have resided continuously in the state for twelve (12) months and in the City of Aurora for six (6) months immediately preceding the following the date of filing
– Must be a registered voter in the City of Aurora

City Specific Requirements (Aurora Code of Ordinances, Section 2.02.001):
– For Council Members, must reside within the ward you are applying for. View Ward Map.
– For Mayor, the position is elected at-large.
