Government
Aurora, Texas is a Type A, general law city. General law cities are limited to doing what the state authorizes or permits them to do.
- Aurora operates under an aldermanic form of government which utilizes a ward system to ensure fair representation of various areas of the City.
- Two aldermen (Council members) are elected from each ward by registered voters of said ward.
- The Mayor is elected at-large and serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the City.
- Day-to-day oversight and responsibility of various City functions may be delegated to a City Administrator and/or City Secretary.
The Mayor and City Council hold routine meetings to conduct City business, authorize projects, approve contracts, and make appointments of boards/commissions and City staff. The public are encouraged to attend all meetings, and are given the opportunity to speak during a public comment portion of the meeting.
